It’s another night of UFC history in the making at Sapphire Las Vegas. With the Bantamweight Championship on the line, Renan Barao takes on challenger Urijah Faber. The most exciting fights are the unexpected. Barao was originally supposed to fight Dominick Cruz but his injuries forced him to withdraw, stripping him of his title. This allowed Faber to step in as the contender, much to the dismay of Cruz.
Cruz and Faber go way back in a rivalry that was supposed to be battled out in UFC 148. Unfortunately, Cruz tore his ACL which led to Faber’s first loss to Barao. This fight was meant to be the way for Cruz to redeem himself against Barao and reclaim the belt. Now, it will be a chance for Faber to truly make a name for himself in the Octagon.
As far as Urijah Faber is concerned, he HAS to win this fight. In 2008 his record was one that seemed to be leading to the end of a career. However, 2013 was an uphill climb to becoming an obvious #1 contender. He advanced his overall record in non-title fights to 30-0 which proved that he was indeed ready to face the obstacle that is Renan Barao.
Barao has not lost since his professional debut in 2005. He has already beat Faber for the interim belt and stopped fighters such as Michael McDonald and Eddie Wineland from weakening his incredible record. Of course in this particular situation the greatest advantage Barao will have is that Faber has had very little time to prepare for this fight.
Will the short notice add fuel to Faber’s fire or will it stunt his possible last shot at the UFC gold? Will Barao maintain his title or allow Faber to climb to the top? Find out at Sapphire Las Vegas on February 1, 2014, surrounded by gorgeous women offering $1 dances, incredible food, and prizes.
