Rod Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, will celebrate his family’s legacy at the annual Star Trek Convention with a number of events throughout the week. Rod, who is an avid scuba diver and founder of the Roddenberry Dive Team (www.roddenberrydiveteam.com), will kick off the festivities with a special dive in the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef Aquarium on Tuesday, August 4th. Rod believes in exploring the underwater universe in the same way his father explored outerspace.
On Thursday night Roddenberry Productions will host a fan party at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Body English club alongside past Star Trek stars Jeffrey Combs, Max Grodenchik, J.G. Hertzler, Robert O’Reilly, and Garrett Wang, among others, to celebrate the upcoming Roddenberry comic book series Days Missing (www.daysmissing.com).
On Friday, Rod will be giving a tribute to his mother Majel Roddenberry, the “First Lady of Star Trek,” who was not only married to the creator, but also supplied the voice for the USS Enterprise in the most recent film and held various parts in the other incarnations. She passed away last December, so this will be the first Star Trek Convention since her death.
