Iggy Azalea has just been added to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’ dynamic 2014 entertainment lineup.
In an unlikely crossover success story, Australian beauty Amethyst Amelia Kelly, known by fans as Iggy Azalea, segued from a high-profile modeling career to become a hip-hop star. Influenced by Missy Elliott, TLC and Tupac Shakur, Azalea felt drawn to the birthplace of rap and moved to the United States in 2006 at the age of 16. She absorbed the Southern-style of her surroundings, spending time living in Miami, Houston and Atlanta, before settling in Los Angeles where she released a trap-inspired mixtape titled Ignorant Art.
Catapulted into the limelight by the 2011 mixtapes’ original tracks and the freestyling videos she uploaded to YouTube, Azalea used her recognition to release a second mixtape titled Glory EP and then a third called Trap Gold. This third mixtape featured pristine production, courtesy of Diplo and FKi, which highlighted her unmistakable double-time flows and caught the attention of several record labels. After Trap Gold’s release, Azalea signed deals with Virgin EMI in the UK and Island Def Jam in the U.S.
Since then, Azaela has toured extensively, made multiple primetime television appearances and continues to surprise fans with new music and an ever-evolving sound. Her debut album The New Classic was released in April 2014 through Virgin EMI/Island Def Jam and includes “Fancy,” Azalea’s hit single featuring Charli XCX.
