Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Public Relations Dept. did not have to look far to find a winner for the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Las Vegas 350 program cover design contest. A design by Robert Krause, a 26-year-old native of Las Vegas, was selected to be the cover of this year’s souvenir program for the Sept. 26 race. It was chosen from more than 35 entries from as far away as New York. The digitally-designed cover features NASCAR Camping World trucks surrounded by some of the city’s most popular icons.
Krause, who works is a Clark County Public Works maintenance worker and creates freelance art work locally, used his hometown as inspiration for his design.
“I wanted to incorporate the high stakes of winning in Las Vegas and the high stakes in winning a NASCAR truck race,” said Krause. “I like entering a contest like the one at LVMS because it gives artists a certain topic to depict and lets the artist bring that topic to realization.”
Krause is no stranger to the year-round racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He has attended several of the speedway’s biggest races ranging from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race to weekly racing action at the Bullring — the speedway’s 3/8-mile paved oval.
“I like to support our local Busch brothers (Kurt and Kyle) in NASCAR racing,” said Krause. “I am just a big fan of a good and exciting race when I go to the speedway.”
In addition to his artwork being featured on the cover of the souvenir program, Krause will be a VIP guest of LVMS and will receive four suite and Neon Garage passes for the Las Vegas 350 and will be photographed with the race winner in victory lane.
“I’m honored to have been chosen as the winner,” said Krause. “I’m looking forward to an eventful and exciting truck race. I hope that this opportunity may lead to further art projects in my career.”
