Gordon Lightfoot will perform in te Access Showroom at Aliante Station on October 23 at 8pm.
Gordon Lightfoot’s musical journey began as a songwriter where he penned hits, including Peter, Paul and Mary’s “For Lovin’ Me” and “Early Morning Rain” and Marty Robbins’ “Ribbon of Darkness.” In the late ’60s, he started recording his own albums, but it wasn’t until 1970 that Lightfoot gained success as a recording artist.
His album, Sit Down Young Stranger featured the hit song “If You Could Read My Mind,” which helped lead his way to musical success. The 1974 album Sundown reached No. 1 as did its title track. As folk music’s popularity declined, so did Lightfoot’s recording but he continued touring to much popularity.
In 2002, Lightfoot suffered a near-fatal abdominal hemorrhage during a concert that put him in a three-week coma. Upon awaking, he immediately picked songs from the 18 demos he recorded in 2001, and he and his band recorded the album Harmony, which was released in 2004.
