Usher in fall and the harvest season feet first at the 23rd Annual Grape Stomp Festival on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event is hosted by Bill and Gretchen Loken, proprietors of the Pahrump Valley Winery, 3810 Winery Road in Pahrump, only 50 miles southwest of Las Vegas off of Highway 160. The Loken’s have been “bringing gold to the silver state” since 2004 producing nationally recognized wines and are the proud recipients of 400 national wine awards to date.
The fun Stomp competition, with teams of two person teams vying to stomp or “crush” the greatest amount of juice in half barrels, is priced at $50 per team. Participants will compete in the fruit-smashing action starting at 12 noon every hour on the hour until 4 p.m. in two-minute stomping heats every 15 minutes and points are earned for most juiced within two minutes. Winners will be selected by the largest volume of juice produced, and awards will be given for gold, bronze and silver each hour. Trophies also will be awarded for best costume and worst stompers as determined by the judges. Stompers will receive a complimentary t-shirt and certificate.
Grape Stomp Festival goers will experience watching all the excitement of the Stomp competition, wine tasting, food, live music, and craft booths, raffles, and a massive wine sale amidst the beautiful Winery atmosphere. Guests will be able to sample a variety of different wines of brands, based on availability, of barbera, syrah, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, Symphony, Desert Blush, burgundy, merlot, crème sherry and others. A Nevada Ridge Primitivo, Barbera, Tempranillo and Silver State Red made solely from Nevada grown grapes will also be available.
General admission for the Festival is $10 at the door or $7 in advance if purchased at the Winery before Oct. 1.
