Las Vegas photographer Erik Kabik got an exclusive photo session backstage at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino before Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors performed at Wasted Space this weekend (Photo: © Erik Kabik/ RETNA/ www.erikkabik.com).
I spent some time with rock icons and legends Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors and their band and shot some photos before their performance.
The band was better than I have heard them in years. I’ve been following them since they reformed with Ian Astbury of The CULT. Brett Scallions of Fuel replaced Astbury a couple years back. I think Brett Scallions on vocals has truly become comfortable as THE DOORS lead singer and embodies the spirit of this music making it truly fresh and real in a way I never heard it before. It’s not a nostalgia trip act with two guys from The Doors, it’s the real deal. With legendary Bass Player Phil Chen in the band and Ty Dennis on Drums, Ray and Robby have formed a fantastic group to perform their music to the level and the intensity that it should be played. They simply blew the roof off Wasted Space tonight and left the crowd begging for more. The Lizard King, Jim Morrison, and his memory were honored and the band from Los Angeles California, THE DOORS, performed in Las Vegas tonight. Sure they don’t call it THE DOORS, but if you closed your eyes that is exactly what it was… a Doors concert.
