Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) will fight on November 21 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. You can watch it LIVE on PPV at Sapphire Las Vegas. Enjoy Milagro Tequila specials for the entire fight!
As the fight between Cotto and Alvarez approaches, verbal exchanges are becoming more and more bold.
The face offs at every press conference have been intense thus far , but the words spoken from each respective side have been cordial and nothing to write home about–except of course for when Freddie Roach (Boxing coach for five-time and four-division World Champion Miguel Cotto and eight-division World Champion Manny Pacquiao) speaks.
“We will win by knockout,” said Roach during the Los Angeles press conference.
Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and Canelo Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) are pretty evenly matched on paper but Canelo is riding high since scoring a potential knockout of the year his last time out against James Kirkland and looks to solidify his status as boxing’s next cash cow and in-ring star.
“I’m not afraid of any fighter…” – Canelo
“I am not afraid of any fighter, but right now I am focused on Cotto. Once this fight is over we can move on to the next big fight,” Canelo said. (source)
In the end, this fight is shaping up to be a spectacle worth seeing.
“We are both great fighters and are coming to give a great fight on November 21,” stated Cotto on Tuesday in Mexico City.
Cotto vs. Canelo: Place Your Bets
De La Hoya: Cotto-Canelo Is Fight of the Year. With that in mind, the retired boxing great Oscar De La Hoya and the music mogul Jay Z made a friendly $100,000 bet that will see the “loser” donate to the other’s charity of choice. Here’s the official press release:
On the heels of one of the most anticipated nights in boxing this year, Roc Nation Sports’ founder JAY Z and Golden Boy Promotions’ chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya have entered into a friendly wager with one another staking claim that their respective boxer will capture the win when Miguel Cotto faces Canelo Alvarez in a middleweight world championship mega-fight on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas presented live on HBO Pay-Per-View. The bet started taking shape when both co-promoters visited their boxers’ camps prior to fight week, boasting confidently about their fighters’ ability to come out victorious on Nov. 21. The terms were inevitably set – JAY Z and Oscar decided to place a $100,000 bet with the winner’s earnings going towards their philanthropic endeavors. If Cotto and JAY Z come out on top, Oscar will donate $100,000 to the Shawn Carter Foundation. In similar fashion, if Canelo beats Cotto, JAY Z will donate $100,000 to Oscar’s efforts at the White Memorial Medical Center’s cancer unit. Now all sights are set on Nov. 21, when the showdown between Cotto and Canelo will determine who will be the middleweight champion of the world and the outcome of JAY Z’s and Oscar’s bet. (source)
