Artist Info: As the number one purveyor of mainstream romantic soul and R&B, Smokey Robinson set the pace for Motown Records in the ’60s and urban contemporary music in the ’70s. Part of the gospel influenced Motown group The Miracles, Robinson scored a number of hits with songs like “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “I Second That Emotion,” “Ooo Baby Baby” and “Baby, Baby Don’t Cry.”
Going solo in the early ’70s and scoring hits with songs like “Cruisin” and “Being With You,” Robinson went on to become a vice president at Motown Records. Not only has the artist has proven himself to be a remarkable musician and savvy businessman, Robinson is also one of pop’s best and most prolific songwriters, penning the Mary Wells classic “My Guy” and The Temptations “My Girl.”
