Acoustic punk band Violent Femmes will play at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas at The Linq Promenade on Thursday, May 5 at 8:30 p.m.
The “Blister in the Sun” band formed in Milwaukee in 1981. Inspired by The Velvet Underground and Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps, they opened for the Pretenders early on in their careers, which led to an invitation to play in New York supporting Richard Hell. The New York performance yielded a rave review in the New York Times and later a record deal and worldwide touring.
They have released eight studio albums and 15 singles in total. Their raw sound and honest lyrical perspective has been cited as an influence by artists as diverse as Pink, Keith Urban, The Smiths, Nirvana, Lou Reed and John Cusack. Other notable tracks include “Kiss Off,” “Add It Up” and “Gone Daddy Gone.”
Doors for Violent Femmes at Brooklyn Bowl open at 7:30 p.m. This show is for ages 18+. Tickets start at $35 (plus applicable service fees) and are on sale to the public on Friday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Brooklyn Bowl box office, by calling 877.987.6487 or online at http://ticketf.ly/1QcRZ5O.
