Smith’s Food & Drug Stores wants to make sure the valley’s most vulnerable residents and animals stay hydrated.
Smith’s Nevada grocery stores are donating a collective 5,040 gallons of water to Southern Nevada charitable organizations at 10 a.m., Aug. 18 at the Smith’s store located at 4600 E. Sunset Road. Organizations that will be picking up pallets of water include Three Square Food Bank, The Shade Tree, Salvation Army of Southern Nevada, Westcare, U.S. Vets, Nevada SPCA, Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.
“The Valley has been extremely hot this summer, and agencies are stretched to help those who are living without enough water. We hope this contribution will help to get them through the tough weather,” said Marsha Gilford, vice president of public affairs for Smith’s.
Smith’s is a division of the Kroger Co., one of the nation’s largest retail grocers. From its headquarters in Salt Lake City, Smith’s manages 139 stores throughout seven western states, including 38 in southern Nevada. In 2015, with support from associates, customers and suppliers, Smith’s Food & Drug donated a total of $4.4 million worth of product and cash to local nonprofit organizations in Nevada.
