Police officers and firefighters throughout Southern Nevada are preparing to compete on the soccer field for a great cause. The annual Guns‘n’Hoses benefit soccer game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at Peter Johann Soccer Field on the campus of UNLV.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Injured Police Officers Fund (selected by local police officers) and the Burn Foundation (selected by local firefighters). The winning team’s charity of choice will take home 60 percent of the event’s proceeds, with the remaining 40 percent going to the other team’s charity.
“Major bragging rights are on the line and we’re ready to go ‘foot-to-foot’ on the UNLV field again this year,” said Jon Stevenson, Assistant Chief of Operations of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. “Friendly rivalries aside, we look forward to the community coming out for a day of fun in benefit of two amazing charities who consistently support our first responders.”
The family-friendly extravaganza will take place from 3:30 – 8:30 p.m. with pregame activities including SWAT unit demonstrations, police car and fire truck displays, a children’s photo ID station and finger printing station. Delectable food and beverage options will be available throughout the duration of the event. Additionally, the event will boast many children’s activities such as bounce houses, face painting, special character appearances and arts and crafts.
The benefit soccer game kicks off at 4:15 p.m. with a ceremonial first kick from Nevada State Senator Ruben Kihuen. LVMPD K-9 Unit will provide halftime entertainment.
Following the benefit match and inclusive for Guns’n’Hoses ticket holders, attendees are welcome to watch the University of Nevada, Las Vegas vs. Oregon State men’s soccer game kicking off at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are $7 for adults (in advance) or $10 (at the gate). Admission for children and UNLV students is free. Tickets may be purchased in advance, with no service fees, at UNLVtickets.com. The Peter Johann Soccer Field is located near the intersection of E. Flamingo Road and Swenson Street.
