This holiday season, the customers and employees of Vons are teaming up with the Lutheran Social Services of Nevada to help children and families in need. Beginning on Sunday, November 15 and running through December 31, all Vons and Pavilions stores will participate in the Season of Giving canister campaign to support local food banks and other non profit organizations. Clark County stores have generously decided to support LSSN through this program.
Vons and LSSN have a history of mutual community support. In January of this year, Nevada First Lady Dawn Gibbons helped to distribute a donation from Vons of $65,000 in food products, which were then used to help alleviate the increased need caused by the recent economic downturn.
Lutheran Social Services of Nevada was founded to address the growing needs of people seeking emergency food, housing and employment assistance in Nevada regardless of religious affiliation, age, or national origin. The agency recognizes 12 years as a major hunger-relief organization working to end food insecurity and increase access to nutritious food, housing, and employment services for homeless, low, and moderate income individuals. Since 1997, the agency has provided assistance to over 125,000 Nevadans in need – homeless families with dependent children, refugees, and immigrants, troubled youths, and families in crisis, seniors and homeless individuals.
