On Wednesday, April 19, Junior League of Las Vegas presented a check for $200,000 to HELP of Southern Nevada for the nonprofit’s new Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, located directly behind HELP’s main office at 1640 E. Flamingo Road. The donation will be distributed over the span of two years and will fund two new key positions, education coordinator and activities/volunteer coordinator, at the new center.
Shannon West Homeless Youth Center provides services for at-risk youth, ages 16 to 24, that are homeless or at the risk of becoming homeless. The current center houses 65 youth, while the new center opening this summer 2017 will double the amount of youth housed.
HELP of Southern Nevada operates 10 departments, consists of 108 employees and serves tens of thousands of unduplicated clients each year. The services HELP provides assist low-income families, homeless teens and adults among other individuals, to become more self-sufficient through direct services, trainings and referrals. Programs available include Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, Emergency Resources Services, Framing Hope Warehouse, Weatherization, Community Alternative Sentencing, Work Opportunities Readiness Center, Holiday Assistance, Homeless Outreach, Mobile Crisis Intervention Team and Behavioral Health Services.
