Multi-talented singer, songwriter, actress, producer, DJ and activist, Erykah Badu, is returning to Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas at The Linq Promenade for a performance on Thursday, July 20, at 8:30 p.m.
Badu embarked on a five-year hiatus after releasing 2010’s “New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh),” during which she traveled to Africa, looking to record new music. After hearing a remix of her “On and On” from producer Zac Witness, Badu met Witness at his home studio in Texas, where they recorded the 2015 mixtape “But You Caint Use My Phone” over eleven days.
While Badu’s musical style effortlessly blends genres of R&B, hip-hop and jazz, and has often been compared to the likes of Billie Holiday for her incredible musical sensibility, the label “neo-soul” is most often applied to her music. Her blending of soul and hip-hop, while incorporating elements of funk and jazz, also ties in themes of contemporary culture and human struggle. Badu, also an accomplished actress with appearances in films such as “House of D” and “The Cider House Rules,” demonstrates the skills of a true storyteller in each of her performances and is ready to bring that energy back to Brooklyn Bowl.
Erykah Badu at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas is for ages 18+. Venue presale tickets are available Thursday, May 4 at 10 p.m. PT using password “MCAPPLE.” General admission tickets start at $59.50 (plus applicable service fees) and are on sale to the public on Friday, May 5, at 10 a.m. PT at the Brooklyn Bowl box office, by calling 877.987.6487 or online.
