Plaza Hotel & Casino to Hold First Pickleball Mixer on Dec. 7; Free Happy Hour Mixers Offer Beginners Clinics, Drink Specials and Complimentary Food
Offering the most dedicated Pickleball courts of any hotel/casino, the Plaza Hotel & Casino is partnering with the city of Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department to hold free Pickleball mixers on Thursday, Dec. 7 and again on Thursday, Jan. 4.

The mixers will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on the rooftop Pickleball courts at the Pool at the Plaza. Guests can play for free while enjoying music from a local DJ, complimentary pizza and water from Pop Up Pizza, and drink specials from the Pool at the Plaza cocktail bar.

Before each mixer, from 5 to 6 p.m., a beginner’s Pickleball clinic will be held. Taught by USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) 5.0 Tournament Competitor, Isaac Johnson, the clinics will teach new players about the country’s fastest growing leisure sport, including rules of the game and basic techniques.

“When the Plaza renovated its rooftop recreation courts, we learned just how popular Pickleball has become,” said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of the Plaza Hotel & Casino. “We are proud to be a destination for this fun sport for players from around the world as well as our own local residents. We are excited to partner with the city of Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department on these novel events that will be a great way to for people to learn about a new sport, play with friends and simply mix and mingle during a unique happy hour.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own equipment or can rent racquets and balls for a nominal fee on a first come basis. Play is open to ages 18 and older. Advanced reservations for the mixers are not necessary.

Starting on Jan. 11, the Parks and Recreation Department will hold weekly Pickleball scramblers at the Plaza. Still offering a relaxed happy hour atmosphere, the scramblers will be more organized play events similar to a league but without any long-term commitment. Formal leagues may be created based on demand in the future.

The Pool at the Plaza offers twelve permanent Pickleball courts and a tennis court that can be converted into 4 more. The courts are open for play every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local residents with Nevada ID can enjoy unlimited play for $3 per day and can rent two racquets and a ball for $5. Parking at the Plaza will be validated with receipt for court rental. Reservations can be made online at: www.plazahotelcasino.com/hotel/pickleball/.
