The Venetian Las Vegas presents “Open Wings-Broken Strings” featuring acoustic performances by Eddie Kowalczyk of Live, Art Alexakis of Everclear and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. in the 742-seat Venetian Showroom.
Ed Kowalczyk asks the question, “As a songwriter and a singer in a successful rock band, I have had the good fortune of being surrounded by incredible musicians, lots of wonderful production on both record and onstage and plenty of VOLUME but did you know that the story of your favorite songs often originates in a much different environment?”
“Open Wings-Broken Strings” is an opportunity for audience members to get to the heart of their favorite artists and songs in a unique and compelling way. Stripped down, intimate and acoustic, the audience will hear the strings on the guitar vibrate and buzz, the vocal chords hum and pulsate as the songs they love come to life like you never knew they could. In this intimate environment, the rock star steps out from behind the layers of decibel and drama to greet the audience with the essence, the story, and the song.
Eddie Kowalczyk, widely known as the Lead singer/front man/guitarist of the band Live, has built an impressive résumé with his band mates that include eight full-length albums, total CD sales exceeding 20 million, a huge international fan base and extensive touring all over the world. Live has been one of the most successful and enduring alternative rock bands of the 1990s and 2000s. One of the main things that have enabled Live to maintain a devoted fan base is the substantial and durable nature of their lyrics, which have often reflected Kowalczyk’s personal and spiritual concerns. Eddie is now offering and accentuating these nuances in a more intimate setting through his solo-acoustic performances.
Art Alexakis of Everclear has built a solid career and devoted fan base on heartfelt songs culled from real-life experiences that he’s always been open about including an absentee father and brother’s death from a drug overdose. He would later chronicle his experiences in his songs, including “Heroin Girl” on their 1995 breakthrough album, “Sparkle & Fade” (platinum in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand and Australia) and “Father of Mine” on 1997’s “So Much For The Afterglow.”
Leigh Nash, perhaps best know as the dynamic, angelic-voiced lead singer of pop group Sixpence None the Richer. Following three album releases and the great success of their hit singles “Kiss Me,” “There She Goes,” and “Breathe Your Name” the band took a hiatus in 2004. Leigh took this time to release a solo record entitled “Blue on Blue” in 2006. In 2008, Sixpence None the Richer reunited to record a Christmas album entitled “Dawn of Grace,” a holiday piece fans had long requested. This year the band signed to EMI Credential and plan to record a new album for release in early 2010.
