April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and on April 24th, “Las Vegas’ First Lady of Jazz” Michelle Johnson stars in Happy Birthday Ella – an intimate concert paying tribute to the great Ella Fitzgerald on the eve of what would have been her 101st birthday (Pictured: Michelle Johnson as Ella Fitzgerald).
The show is part of the popular Tuesday Night Jazz series in “The BackSpace”, a cozy backroom at producer Mark Shunock’s Las Vegas venue The Space.
Michelle Johnson’s soaring vocals and ability to engage an audience in a dynamic, personal, and intimate way have made her a favorite in cabarets and performing arts centers across the country. Michelle has starred in and executive produced sold-out shows in Las Vegas and elsewhere, including 2017’s “Strictly Taboo” celebrating the great ladies of jazz. She has performed on Broadway and has also appeared, toured, or recorded with legendary artists Gladys Knight, Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, and others.
Come and hear the songs that made Ella a legend, and find out some things you may not have known about her. The show promises to be a great night of entertainment and classic jazz, featuring the world class Uli Geissendoerfer Trio and some special guests. Michelle’s liquid voice and unique style will engage you from the first note to the last.
