Three Square Food Bank Advocates Children’s Needs During National Nutrition Month
Three Square Food Bank
, now celebrating its 10th year as Southern Nevada’s only food bank and largest hunger relief organization, released a public service announcement during National Nutrition Month, advocating for healthy breakfast for school students.

The “Powered By Breakfast” PSA highlights the negative impact that hunger has on a child’s ability to learn, and encourages eating breakfast at school to provide young minds with the fuel they need to excel.

To accompany the overall initiative and highlight school breakfast week, Three Square hosted an art contest inviting Clark County School District (CCSD) students to submit a work of art that depicts the importance of breakfast. More than 50 entries were received, and the full gallery is available for free viewing until Saturday, April 28 at Centennial Hills Library.

Formerly ranked last in the country during the 2010-2011 school year, Nevada has risen to the seventh ranked state in the U.S. for breakfast participation according to reports generated by The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC). The climb in rank comes due to Nevada’s Breakfast After the Bell bill (SB503). Three Square partnered with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) to champion the legislative efforts, which has helped CCSD serve 2 million more breakfast meals to students in the school district.

“Providing school breakfast is crucial to help developing minds receive consistent nutrition that enables growth and success,” said Dorian Stonebarger, Programs Director at Three Square Food Bank. “As Nevada improves its programs to provide support for students, Three Square will continue to fight to ensure every child has what they need nutritionally to remain focused and able to learn.”

This year marks Three Square’s 10th anniversary serving as Southern Nevada’s only food bank and largest hunger relief organization. The nonprofit offers wholesome, nutritious food to nonprofit and faith-based organizations, schools and feeding sites that serve a wide range of Southern Nevadans.
