Residents, community partners, organizations and businesses are invited to join thousands in making Henderson’s historic Water Street District twinkle. The city is now accepting applications for this year’s WinterFest Evening Light Parade through Nov. 16. Registration is $50 per entry; nonprofit registration is $25 per entry.
The WinterFest Evening Light Parade, which gets underway at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, has become a much-loved tradition for residents to attend and participate in. One of the best holiday processions in the valley, nearly 100 glimmering entries, which include floats, school bands, cheer teams, and Santa Claus, march in the parade every year.
Entries must be decked out in lights and reflect the theme “North Pole Adventures.” Judges score participants based on incorporation of theme, creativity and overall appeal. In all categories, creative use and placement of lights in a WinterFest Evening Light Parade entry will impress the judges and elevate that entry’s score.
Cash prizes are awarded to floats for first ($1,000), second ($750) and third place ($500), courtesy of several generous sponsors. Ribbons are awarded to the best three entries in the remaining categories.
Ballots will be tallied and awards will be presented at the conclusion of the parade, approximately 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St.
Those who are interested in participating in this year’s WinterFest Evening Light Parade may download the application online at cityofhenderson.com. Applications, with payment, are due no later than Nov. 16.
Scheduled for Dec. 7 and Dec. 8, WinterFest will feature a tree-lighting ceremony, fireworks display, live entertainment, a new children’s area with North Pole-centered activities, JingleFest Gift & Craft Fair, Gingerbread House Contest, visits with Santa, entertainment for all ages, food trucks, and vendors.
