The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation will hold the 5th Annual Cops & Canvas Art Auction Fundraiser at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019. The event will take place at AREA15, giving guests a sneak peek of the experiential retail and entertainment complex scheduled to open by the end of the year.
This event highlights talents of the outstanding officers, LVMPD family members and the community that supports them, showcasing the artistic side of Las Vegas’ law enforcement heroes.
“Many officers express themselves through art and whether it be through poetry, photography, canvas or sculpture, Cops & Canvas provides an amazing platform to share their talents with the community,” said Tom Kovach, executive director for LVMPD Foundation. “Each year, Cops & Canvas brings the community together in a creative way and we are thrilled to have it at such an artistic space like AREA15 for a second year.”
This year’s theme for art submissions is Recovery: The Power of Art and Linda Alterwitz, a renowned artist and educator, will be a featured artist at Cops & Canvas 2019. LVMPD Detective Darryl McDonald will also be honored for his artistic contributions to the community and the LVMPD Foundation. Last year, Detective McDonald’s “58 Rose” piece, which was inspired by and dedicated to the victims of the October 1 tragedy, was the highest selling item of the night.
Funds raised from Cops & Canvas directly support community safety programs, fundraising for the construction of the Reality Based Training Center in Southern Nevada and much more.
