The Spinners

For more than 50 years, The Spinners have impressed fans with their soulful sounds, continuing to tour with original member Henry Fambrough. Widely known as the greatest soul group of the early ‘70s, the group created a body of work that defined the lush, seductive sound of Philly soul. Ironically, the band was from Detroit where they originally formed as a doo wop group during the late ‘50s. Throughout the ‘60s, The Spinners shifted to R&B and pop, and by the mid-60s, they had signed with Motown Records.

The Spinners later signed with Atlantic Records, releasing several chart-topping hits and went on to become one of the biggest soul groups of the 1970s. With a detailed web of horns, strings, backing vocals, and lightly funky rhythms, the group recorded several soul classics, including “I’ll Be Around,” “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” “Mighty Love,” “Ghetto Child,” “Then Came You,” “Games People Play,” and “The Rubberband Man.” In 1976, The Spinners received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.
