Walker Furniture Announces 2019 ‘Help for Heroes’ Veteran Recipients

held a ceremony and luncheon at the VFW Post in North Las Vegas on June 29 to announce this year’s 12 U.S. Military veterans who will be receiving furniture, some specialized, as part of Walker’s sixth annual “Help for Heroes” program (Pictured: Veteran Cleveland Lee Johnson, ‘Help For Heroes’ 2019 Recipient). 

“Walker Furniture created the ‘Help for Heroes’ program to help make day-to-day living a little easier for an often-overlooked segment of our community,” said Larry Alterwitz, Walker Furniture CEO/owner. “This year the program is providing some relief for 12 active military personnel and/or veterans.”

This year’s 12 recipients selected from letters written by family, friends and community partners and read by American Legion Paradise Post 149 include: Peggy Randle – Navy Vet; Guy Nguyen – Marines; Chris McKay – Marines; Dale Hammond – Vietnam; Laura Mazzola-De Jesus – 10-year Vet; Brian Lougee – Army National Guard; Thomas Maloney – Air Force; Cleveland Lee Johnson – Air Force; Ricky Lee Poe – Desert Storm; Sharon Kimbrough – Air Force; Walter Norton – Vietnam – Air Force; and Kim Aurich – Air Force.

John Mull’s Road Kill Grill provided the lunch to the veterans and their friends and families while the Las Vegas Rescue Mission donated food boxes to each recipient. This year’s new community partner Yes Air Conditioning is providing any air conditioning or plumbing repairs each recipient may need.

Commander Robert Bencsko presented Walker Furniture owners Larry Alterwitz and Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi with a plaque thanking them for their continued support of the local veterans in our community. Senator Jacky Rosen’s regional representative and Veterans Outreach Manager Brendan C. Vargas presented them with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition.
