Restaurant openings in Las Vegas are a regular occurrence, but it is rare that such an event also marks an inspirational milestone (Pictured above: Scott Frost Walks Into Hussong’s Cantina – Photo credit: Al Powers).

Thursday night at Hussong’s Cantina at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place a packed crowd was on hand to witness Scott Frost stand up from his wheelchair and take 18 steps to the first bar seat at his new venue with fiancé Megan Powell at his side.

Scott Frost, the president of Titan Nightlife Group, the developer behind Hussong’s Cantina in Vegas, was seriously injured on May of 2009 in an off-road motorcycle accident resulting in him being paralyzed from the neck down. Determined to not let this become a set-back, he negotiated the leasing, financing and development of Hussong’s – alongside his partner Jeff Marks – from his hospital bed and Desert Canyon Rehabilitation, where he spent 70 days. He has been in physical therapy and is making great progress. While still wheelchair bound, he was determined to walk into his new restaurant at the VIP grand opening without any mechanical assistance, a goal he achieved with rock n’ roll mariachis and proud friends and family lining his path. After accomplishing this major feat Frost addressed the crowd, reminding everyone to focus on the important things in life and thanking everyone for making his dream a reality.

With that, the crowd had true reason to celebrate, enjoying Hussong’s Original Margaritas, a plethora of tequilas for shooting and signature menu items from Executive Chef Noe Alcala. The rock n’ roll mariachis entertained the crowd, switching effortlessly from traditional music to classic American songs that had the whole place singing along. An Ensenada landmark since 1892, the Vegas outpost of Hussong’s Cantina is certain to continue the famed history with strong drinks and a great party every night.
