The Magic of DISCOVERY Homecoming Celebration Raises More Than $300,000 of Critical Funding for The Museum’s Educational Programs
For the first time ever, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum held their annual Magic of DISCOVERY event at the place they call home – the vibrant, welcoming and all-inclusive DISCOVERY Children’s Museum on Saturday, Oct. 12.  This year’s event, themed a Homecoming Celebration, raised more than $300,000 in critical funding to support the one-of-a-kind children’s museum that meets at the crossroads of education and fun (Pictured: Chet Buchanan and Gibson Middle School’s Drum Line

The train of a green dress created ‘the carpet’ for the evening as guests arrived at the Museum. Guests relived the spirit of homecoming while sporting their favorite school spirit attire for an evening focused on bringing the community together to raise critical funding for the Museum’s exhibits and outreach programs.

“We are so thankful for the tremendous support we received at our annual Magic of DISCOVERY Homecoming Celebration,” said Chief Executive Officer, Melissa Kaiser. “Over $300,000 was raised thanks to our incredible sponsors, donors and supporters.  This year we recognized The Chairman’s Advisory Council for their continued support of our mission to provide the children of our community a welcoming, vibrant and inclusive environment where all are invited to engage in playful and educational experiences.”

The program, emceed by Las Vegas’s iconic radio personality, Chet Buchanan, was accompanied by a cocktail reception, strolling dinner, silent auction, raffle and live entertainment provided by Las Vegas local groups including the UNLV cheerleading team, Thurman White Academy’s “Big Steps” acapella group, Gibson Middle School’s Drum Line, C.T. Sewell Elementary School’s “Sparklers” Show Squad and Nashville country singer and season six contestant of NBC’s “The Voice,” Cali Tucker. In addition, guests were able to get hands-on and create special keepsake boxes made from the DISCOVERY Lab’s laser cutter and were treated to a special science experiment presented at the Nevada National Security Site Science Bench, where attendees were able to see and taste how delicious homemade ice cream is made in seconds out of liquid nitrogen.

The 2019 Chairman’s Advisory Council was honored for their continuous support of the Museum and contributions they make to keep the Museum everchanging and up-to-date on the latest STEAM programming for the children of our community.

The Chairman’s Advisory Council includes Chair, Judy Cebulko and Council Members, Dan Anderson, Steve Anderson, Jan Jones Blackhurst, Jeri Crawford, Mark Fine, Gloria Fine, David Goldwater, Robin Greenspun, Steve Hill, John Klai, Judy Kropid, Barbara Molasky, Dedee Nave, Victor Onufrieff, Candy Schneider, Dee Snyder, Mark Tratos and Ric Truesdell.

A highlight of the evening came when a video was played during the program that showed the effect the Museum has had on the youth of the Las Vegas community. Tears were shed and guests were in awe by the incredible efforts and impact that the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum has had on the youth in Southern Nevada over the years.
