Ryan Romero – Las Vegas, Nevada
In April 2018, St. Jude Hero Ryan Romero was overweight and knew that something had to change. Romero started this quest because he wanted to live a healthy lifestyle after being diagnosed with HIV, to show to himself and others, you can still be active and live a good life. He decided that running would be the catalyst for that change, and resolved to run a half marathon later that year at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon. By race weekend, Romero had lost more than 60 pounds and noticed the drastic change in his whole lifestyle.

At the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas health and fitness expo on the weekend of the half marathon, his fitness journey and the mission of being a St. Jude Hero truly came into perspective and prompted him to increase his race distance. He switched his race to the full marathon, and even participated in a 5K the day before. What started out to live a healthier life, Romero crisscrossed the country, running his way to becoming a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series Hall of Famer in 2019 logging more than 1,000 miles in 15 races. Ryan has already completed nine different Rock ‘n Roll VR distances so far this year, including one he did while running alongside the Las Vegas Strip. Link
