Erik Schrody, better known as Everlast, is an Irish-American GRAMMY Award-winning singer/songwriter/guitar player. He is well known for his solo-hit “What It’s Like” and also for his position as the front-man for the early ‘90s popular rap group House of Pain. He also is part of the hip-hop group La Coka Nostra which consists of his former House of Pain cohorts Danny Boy and DJ Lethal, as well as popular rap stars Ill Bill and Slaine.
Following Everlast’s first solo album, Forever Everlasting (1990), he joined DJ Lethal and Danny Boy to form House of Pain. The group’s 1992 eponymous debut album later went multi-platinum and also produced the hit single “Jump Around.” The album also featured Cypress Hill member B-Real on the song “Put Your Head Out.” The group toured with various rap and alternative rock bands and also contributed to a movie soundtrack, Judgment Night. The group later broke up following Everlast’s decision to once again pursue a solo career.
Everlast’s second solo album, Whitey Ford Sings the Blues, was released eight years after his solo debut and sold more than 3 million copies. The album was hailed for its blend of rap with acoustic and electric guitars and was developed by Everlast. The album’s lead single, “What It’s Like,” proved to be his most popular and successful song.
La Coka Nostra was formed in 2006 and its first known song featured the musical group Cypress Hill’s MC B-Real. Due to the popularity of the song online, the group released several more online at no charge. The group released its debut album, A Brand You Can Trust, in July 2009 and it features guest rappers including Snoop Dogg, Bun B and Immortal Technique, among others.
