Cannery Casino & Hotel announces The Yardbirds in concert at The Club on March 12 at 8 p.m. Renowned for their innovative use of guitar amplification, feedback and distortion of sound, the Yardbirds are regarded as the forefathers of progressive rock, heavy metal and punk music.
Emerging from the United Kingdom, the Yardbirds developed their own unique sound against their other “British Invasion” counterparts the Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Who. After signing with Columbia, the Yardbirds’ debut album, “Five Live Yardbirds,” included live cover versions of blues and R&B songs including Bo Diddley’s “I’m a Man.” Their first major hit in the United States was the single “For Your Love” which reached #6 on the charts. They continued their success with the sophomore album “Having a Rave Up with the Yardbirds” which produced the #9 charting hit “Heart Full of Soul,” as well as “Shapes of Things.”
Notable for having started the careers of three of rock’s most famous guitarists, the Yardbirds alumni include Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page all of whom are honored in the top 15 of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Guitarists list. In 1992, the Yardbirds were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Tickets are $19.95 and can be purchased at the Cannery Casino & Hotel’s ticket sales counter located at the front desk. Tickets are also available by calling (702) 507-5757 or online at www.cannerycasinos.com.
