“Playing with Fate” - A Solo Painting Fine Art Exhibition by Artist Rachel Berkowitz

Las Vegas’ Whitney Library Gallery has selected international artist Rachel Berkowitz’s large-scale oil paintings for a three month show, beginning November 19th, 2020 until January 26th, 2021. There will be an outdoors closing reception on January 24th 2021, with more information to follow.

The Whitney Library Gallery will be open normal hours for the public for free viewings Weekday hours 10am – 8pm and Weekend hours 10am – 6pm.

The oil painting series plays with the idea of risk and chance. Psychologically stimulating colors and symbols are depicted against surreal natural landscapes, inducing meditations and spiritual reflections. There are elements of luck, gambling icons, and hints of mysticism embedded within the work, creating anthropomorphic slot machines.

These Playing with Fate paintings turn into an escape from reality. The work seeks to create a feeling similar to that of “machine zone”, rather than conveying a single message about the nature of risk taking. The psychology of gambling, the role of monetary rewards within consumerist culture and the seductive properties of colors and signals is explored.
