Rita Rudner, the accomplished comedienne, screenwriter, best-selling author and actress, has announced that she will extend her stay as headliner at Harrah’s Las Vegas until January 2012.
“I’m so excited I’m going to be at Harrah’s for three more years,” said Rudner. “Or as I like to think of it, for twelve more gowns.”
Rudner has enjoyed a successful run at Harrah’s since October 2006, prior to which, she had a six-year headlining engagement on the Las Vegas Strip, performing over 2,000 shows to almost a million people.
“Rita Rudner is the leading lady of comedy and hands down the funniest comedienne in the country,” said Don Marrandino, president of Harrah’s Las Vegas. “We are so pleased that she will continue to amuse audiences with her witty sense of humor the next few years at Harrah’s.”
Rudner is grateful to Harrah’s for allowing her and her producer husband the flexibility to pursue other projects outside of her stage show. In 2008, the couple wrote the play “Room 776” for local theatre troupe Las Vegas Little Theatre. “It really exceeded our expectations,” said Rita. “It received such an enthusiastic response that we got calls from a few New York producers. That play was designed specifically for Las Vegas, but the reaction made us anxious to try another one that maybe could eventually play in New York or Los Angeles. We’ve also got an idea for a movie project set in Las Vegas which we hope to do later this year.”
Rudner has been awarded “Best Comedian” for eight years in a row by the readers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. She is also a best-selling author and screenwriter. Her recent TV special “Rita Rudner: Live in Las Vegas” was a ratings standout for PBS and is now available on DVD. The paperback version of her latest book, “I’ve Still Got It: I Just Don’t Know Where I Put It,” will be published in May.
Tickets to Rudner’s shows are $54 or $90 (plus tax and fees). For show schedules, tickets and additional information please visit www.harrahs.com or call (702) 369-5222.
