Early on, one of Shaggy’s first singles which was a hit overseas “Oh Carolina,” coupled with the high-profile Maxi Priest duet “One More Chance,” was enough to land Shaggy a lucrative deal with Virgin Records in the early ’90s.

His debut album, Pure Pleasure, was released in 1993. Shaggy first hit big in the U.S. in the mid ’90s with Boombastic. The title track sold more than a million copies and peaked at #1 on the R&B charts. The album reached platinum status and spent a full year at #1 on Billboard’s Top Reggae Albums chart and won Shaggy a Grammy award for Best Reggae Album in 1995. Multiple crossover hits followed with success both in the U.S. and overseas and in 2002 Mr. Lover Lover: The Best of Shaggy, Vol. 1 was released. In 2007 he released Intoxication which also hit #1 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart.
