Las Vegas Shakespeare Company Presents “Shakespeare’s Roses” Oct. 17

The Las Vegas Shakespeare Company presents a one-time performance of Shakespeare’s Roses on Sunday, October 17th at 5 p.m. in the theatre at the Adelson Educational Campus in Summerlin, 9700 Hillpointe Road, Las Vegas.

In this 90-minute one-man tour-de-force performance, a restless, middle-aged Will Shakespeare, shares an intense, emotional reflection of his life, musing about his loves, his losses, those who betrayed him and whom he betrayed. The play springs from writer Dan Decker’s speculative biography, “The Two Roses, ” based on the life of Shakespeare as interpreted through the Sonnets, recently published in the peer-reviewed New England Theatre Journal.

‘”Roses’ presents an unusual and fresh perspective on the life of the greatest writer of all time. Contrary to popular belief, we actually know a great deal about his life, and he left a trail of clues in his plays and book of sonnets for us to unravel,” says playwright Dan Decker. “I pieced together this story of his life by overlapping the plays, sonnets, contemporary accounts, subsequent histories, and oral traditions surrounding this remarkable man.”

Shakespeare is played by Las Vegan Michael Hartlett, a Shakespeare-trained actor who performs and teaches Shakespeare in the schools and improvisational acting in Las Vegas.

The performance deals with some adult themes and handles them in a subtle and intelligent manner, making it appropriate for younger theatre-goers as well.

Tickets for “Shakespeare’s Roses” are $15, $20 for two and $7 each for groups of ten or more, seniors over 55, students with ID, and active military. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Adelson Educational Campus. Please visit www.lvshakes.org/tickets to purchase tickets.
