Carlos Santana, just a few days away from the end of his residency run of Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through The Hits, was joined on stage by special guests tonight at The Joint in Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas (Photo: © Erik Kabik/ RETNA/ www.erikkabik.com).
First up was Australian guitarist Orianthi, best know for her lead guitar position in Michael Jackson’s final band for the ill-fated ‘This Is It’ tour before his untimely death. She joined Santana on stage for the classic AC/DC song, Back in Black, which appears on the latest Santana album Guitar Heaven – The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time, and features vocal by NAS.

Next up he brought on Mrs. Carlos Santana, his wife Cindy Blackman who is a jazz and rock drummer best known for her long standing gig touring with Lenny Kravitz. She performed Corazon Espinado into a powerful jam that also featured legendary bass player Benny Rietveld who toured with Miles Davis before joining Santana in 1990. The crowd stood and gave her a standing ovation along with her husband, Carlos.

Next up Santana told the crowd his favorite band of the 1960’s was not The Rolling Stones, not Led Zeppelin, not Cream and not the Beatles — although he loves all of those bands — but his favorite band was The Doors. He said, “they were the most mystical and mysterious” and then he introduced legendary Doors drummer John Densmore. Densmore recited a poem, then recited a passage from Jim Morrison’s ‘American Prayer’ before sitting in on drums for the Doors classic ‘Riders On The Storm’. ‘Riders On The Storm’ also appears on Santana’s Guitar Heaven album and features Chester Bennington of Linkin Park on vocals and Ray Manzarek of The Doors on keyboards.
