Raul Rosas Jr.’s UFC Vegas Victory Takes Scary Turn After Barcelos Hospitalized

Rosas Jr. Secures Fifth-Round TKO in UFC Vegas Main Event

Rosas Jr. (13-1 MMA) overcame a difficult start to defeat Barcelos (22-6) at the Meta APEX on September 26. The 21-year-old Mexican fighter secured the stoppage at 1:38 of the fifth round, extending his winning streak to six consecutive fights.

Barcelos had controlled much of the contest and led on all three judges’ scorecards heading into the final round. Rosas Jr. continued pressing, however, and brought the Brazilian down during a clinch near the cage. Barcelos’ head appeared to strike either the cage or the canvas during the takedown.

Referee Herb Dean immediately stopped the contest after Barcelos appeared to lose consciousness. Rosas Jr. then signaled for the referee’s attention as medical personnel entered the Octagon. Barcelos remained on the canvas before medical staff carried him out on a stretcher. The UFC’s official results confirmed Rosas Jr.’s fifth-round TKO victory by slam.

The UFC confirmed that Barcelos was transported to a Level 1 trauma center immediately after the fight. Hospital staff performed a CT scan and a comprehensive medical assessment before placing him under observation.

In a statement published Sunday, September 27, the promotion said Barcelos was “stable, alert, responsive, with full movement.” He remained under medical supervision, with the UFC promising further updates as they became available.

Barcelos’ coach, Davi Ramos, also shared a reassuring message on social media late Saturday. “Everything is fine, everyone can stay calm,” Ramos wrote in a post translated from Portuguese.

Rosas Jr. addressed the situation during his post-fight interview inside the Octagon. He asked the crowd to keep Barcelos in their prayers and praised his opponent’s toughness.

“I want everybody tonight to please pray for Raoni Barcelos,” Rosas Jr. said. “Man, he’s a warrior. It takes two to tango.” The fight also earned Fight of the Night honors, according to the UFC’s post-event announcement. The recognition followed four competitive rounds before the decisive fifth-round finish.
