The family of John Fisher, owner of the soon to be Las Vegas A’s, has pledged $1 billion to build a new ballpark in the city.

On Thursday, the Las Vegas A’s laid out their plan to finance the $1.5 billion estimated construction costs for the new ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip. Along with the $1 billion from Fisher’s family, the team is sourcing other funds through various loans, equity commitments, and other financing sources.

Additionally, Nevada lawmakers have pledged $380 million in state funding for the stadium.

If you’re unfamiliar, the Oakland Athletics are set to make the big move to Las Vegas and occupy a state-of-the-art ballpark located on the former Tropicana property. The Tropicana officially closed earlier this year, and the building was demolished on October 9.

When it’s built, the new Las Vegas ballpark will be able to accommodate 33,000 fans. Reportedly, the site could also feature a brand-new resort and hotel, including a 495-foot hotel tower and a 250-foot video tower.

However, not everyone is happy about the Oakland A’s move to Las Vegas. Several radio stations banned Green Day from their airwaves after band leader and Oakland native Billie Joe Armstrong made disparaging remarks about the city.

According to local media outlet KNTV, the A’s now believe that it might take more than $1.5 billion to build the stadium, though there’s not currently any word on where the additional funding will come from.

At this point, however, the Tropicana lot should be cleared, and the property readied for construction, by February 2025.
