Beverly Theater Coming to Downtown Las Vegas
Independent film house and performance theater will feature unique cinematic, musical, and literary experiences
A new independent black-box theater is coming to Downtown Las Vegas.
The Rogers Foundation announced they will break ground on the Beverly Theater — a non-profit independent film house and performance venue — this fall. The $30 million performance venue is set to debut by mid-2022 next to the independent The Writers Block bookstore at The Lucy on the corner of 6th Street and Bonneville Avenue.
According to a press release, the project is the brainchild of Beverly Rogers, who originally founded The Rogers Foundation with her late husband and former media mogul Jim Rogers. She currently serves as the Foundation’s Chairman of the Board.
“My affinity for books and film is no secret but being a faithful supporter of the arts means making sure the community has what it needs to flourish, and that’s the true motivation for this venue,” Rogers said in a statement. “Developing a permanent home for independent film and artistic expression fills a void in Southern Nevada and we are thrilled to add yet another creative vessel to our humble little corner on 6th in downtown Las Vegas.”
The announcement came shortly after entertainment executive Kip Kelly was named as the project’s Founding Creative Director.
“Uncommon…that’s the type of content we’re working hard to curate,” said Founding Creative Director Kip Kelly in a statement. “Our goal is to create a flurry of hand-crafted activity that attracts fans, elevates independent voices, and provides a safe creative space for cinema and the arts. Bringing a new theater to Las Vegas is an important responsibility and our program will be for the people. We have to get it right.”
The two-story, 14,306 square-foot theater will feature independent film, music concerts, literary and artistic performances, and educational programming seven days a week. There will also be three distinct areas at The Beverly, including the main theater, terrace, and courtyard, as well as an on-site box office, retail and concession space, green room named “The Teddy”, catering kitchen, and educational workspaces.
The main theater — complete with a 360 sq. foot movie screen — will feature raked seating over 150 seats on a retractable platform that will allow expanded standing room capacity and convert the venue into a multi-purpose black box theater with the simple press of a button. The theater will also feature a motorized cinema masking system and has been designed to maximize viewing angles from every seat in the house.
The terrace is strategically wired for audio and sound and will be used for intimate performances, secondary cinema screening, and social happenings. The courtyard will provide a more intimate space for book clubs, educational gatherings, reading, working, and drinking coffee.
The Rogers Foundation announcement comes a few months after local developer Dapper Companies’ revealed their plans to restore the historic Huntridge Theater as a new performance venue in Downtown Vegas.
