Las Vegas sits in the middle of the Mojave Desert which means, HOT, triple-digit summers. Average summertime temperatures typically exceed 100 degrees, with some days even surpassing 115.
There are plenty of ways to beat the summer heat including lavish pool parties, arctic lounges, and mountain escapes.
In no particular order, here are some unique ways you can beat the summer heat:
Ice Bars
As implied by its name, each of their three locations is kept at a chilly -5 degrees celsius (23 degrees fahrenheit).

Dayclub Pool Parties
Vegas—being the party city it is—offers plenty of dayclub experiences.

Escape to the Mountains
Mt. Charleston is about a 45-60 minute drive, and is typically 20-30 degrees cooler than the city, making it a great destination to beat the triple-digit summer temps. Mt. Charleston and the surrounding Spring Mountains National Recreation Area offer picturesque forest scenery, and numerous hiking and bike trails, as well as a discovery center, lodge, campsites, and rental cabins.
The area includes over 60 miles of hiking trails ranging across different experience levels, including the 16-mile Charleston Peak South Trail which takes you to the 11,916 foot summit of Mt.Charleston.
Lakeside Fun
Only about 30-45 minutes outside of Vegas, Lake Mead offers over 750 miles of shoreline fun. The lake makes for a perfect aquatic playground with a variety of recreational offerings including boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, camping, and scuba diving.
Pontoon boats, jet skis, and houseboats are among some of the watercraft you can rent from one of the marinas lined up around the lake.
Lake Mohave is also nearby and offers visitors peaceful sandy coves against the backdrop of the scenic Black Canyon.
Waterparks
Vegas is home to several water theme parks that are perfect for family-fun:
- Splash Zone: The Circus Circus’ Splash Zone features an acre of aquatic fun, including whirlpools, a water playground, and a 50 ft slide tower. A food truck and rentable cabanas are also available.
- Cowabunga Bay: Located in Henderson, NV, Cowabunga Bay features 10 water slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, and a kid’s area. The park also offers seasonal passes as VIP cabana and pool packages.
- Wet ‘n’ Wild: Wet ‘n’ Wild offers a multitude of water park fun for the whole family, including the thrilling Tornado Tube Ride and the Hoover Halfpipe.
