Resorts World opened its doors to the general public at 11 p.m. following an elaborate firework display to mark the historic occasion.

The resort also featured live music and dance performances, as well as a ribbon-cutting ceremony before opening to the public and allowed VIP guests to get a sneak peek of the massive 88-acre property.

Among Resorts World’s amenities are 3,500 rooms, 117,000 sq. ft of gaming space, 40 restaurants, a 5,000 person theater, two levels of retail space, and a 5.5 acre pool space that includes a 27,000 sq. ft spa area.

One of the property’s notable takeaways is its advanced use of technology, including a 100,000 sq. ft video screen featuring 3,000 individual LED panels that can project live broadcasts and advertisements. Resorts World also features a check-in app and mobile key option for hotel guests, and a cashless electronic gaming system. The resort also partnered with GrubHub so hotel guests have easy access to dining options within the property. In addition, there are future plans to bring crypto-currency services to the resorts in the near future.

The property eventually plans to connect with Elon Musk’s Vegas Loop’s underground transportation system that will be able to transport guests between the resort and the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“This is a very proud moment for Genting [Group] and our Resorts World Las Vegas family as we are honored to officially open our doors,” said Scott Sibella, President of Resorts World Las Vegas, said in a statement. “This spectacular resort was designed to usher in a new era of hospitality in Las Vegas with unsurpassed dining and entertainment, an array of luxury hotel accommodations, and new-age technology.”

A slate of famous performers are also scheduled for multiple shows at the property, including Celine Dion, Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan beginning this November.

In partnership with Zouk Group, the resort will feature Tiësto and Zedd as resident DJs at its Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub, as well as a diverse lineup of female DJs including Becky G, Madison Beer, Charly Jordan, and Madds.

Resorts World’s opening comes after six years and $4.3 billion in construction and is the Strip’s newest ground-up megaresort since the Cosmopolitan opened 10 years ago. In 1958, the site was originally home to the infamous Stardust Resort and Casino, which was considered the largest hotel at the time with over 1,000 rooms.

The Boyd Family purchased the property in 1985 and closed the Stardust in 2006 to make way for a planned mixed-use property called Echelon Place. Construction fell through in 2008 following the Great Recession. The Boyd Family eventually sold the property to the Malaysian-based Genting Group, which began planning Resorts World’s development in 2013. To date, this is the most expensive megaresort to ever be built in Las Vegas.
