The Seattle singer fell in love with performing at the age of 8 when her mother brought her out onstage at the Northwest’s version of the Grand Ole Opry. Carlile sang Roseanne Cash’s “Tennessee Flat-Top Box.” From then on, she performed everywhere she could. She even took a job as a back-up singer for a local Elvis impersonator, an experience she credits with teaching her how to layer vocals and sing harmonies.
Passionate about the environment and gay rights, she donates $1 from every ticket sold at her performances to The Looking Out Foundation, a charity she created to financially support causes she identifies with.
She’s been on tour with Maroon 5, One Republic, and most recently, opened for Sheryl Crow at Radio City Music Hall. Brandi Carlile was selected among the Top 20 albums in E! Online’s “Replay 2005” and three songs from the album were featured on ABC’s hit drama “Grey’s Anatomy.” She’s also been featured on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, and Conan. She was named by Rolling Stone as one of “10 Artists to Watch in 2005” and by Interview as one of four female recording artists to watch in 2005.
Her most recent album, “Give up the Ghost,” was produced by Grammy award winner Rick Rubin. The album opened Carlile to new experiences, including working with talented artists such as Elton John, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, multi-instrumentalist Benmont Tench, drummer Chad Smith and Amy Ray of The Indigo Girls, all of whom contribute to the album.
