Renowned Comedian Shecky Greene Lights Up the Suncoast Showroom May 15-17
A veteran funny man who has ignited showroom audiences across the nation for more than 50 years, Shecky Greene brings his one-of-a-kind comedy to the Suncoast Showroom for three performances May 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Considered by many the ultimate nightclub performer and original Las Vegas comedian, Greene is renowned for delivering sidesplitting laughter and being a master of voices. His celebrity impressions and spot-on foreign accents have made him a crowd favorite over the past five decades.
Following his 1944 discharge from the Navy, Greene entered college to become a gym teacher, but his career path turned when he took a job as social director at a Milwaukee-area hotel. There he got his first taste of improv as he told jokes and did anything that came to mind to entertain guests. From there he enjoyed extended engagements at New Orleans’ Prevue Lounge, Chicago’s famed Chez Paree and later at The Last Frontier, the hottest casino in Las Vegas when the Strip was just a two-lane highway. Later bookings at Riviera and Tropicana made the man who admittedly loves “to wing it” the biggest name in Nevada lounge entertainment.
In addition his career as a legendary nightclub performer, Greene also has big screen credits to his name, including roles in Ron Howard’s Splash and Mel Brooks’ History of the World Part I. Greene has appeared on numerous game shows and was a substitute host on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Over the years, he earned diverse television roles in Laverne & Shirley, Roseanne, Mad About You, A Team and Northern Exposure, among others.
Overcoming cancer and a variety of challenging conditions, Greene has earned the respect of his peers and fans, making him a beloved headliner. He is honored in The Casino Legends Hall of Fame.
