Award-Winning Magician Stephane Vanel Opens at The Harmon Theatre April 5

Magician Stephane Vanel
Magician Stephane Vanel opens at the Harmon Theatre on April 5, 2012. Previously at the Paris Las Vegas in “Magic of Paris”, Vanel was named 2011 Magician of the Year by the International Magicians’ Society and has been lauded by critics: “By far the best sleight of hand artist in Vegas,” Fox 5 News; “The best magic show in Las Vegas, period,” Strip Las Vegas Magazine.

The Harmon’s intimate venue will showcase his masterful display of sleight -of-hand and manipulation skills.

Born and raised in Paris, France, Vanel took up magic at a young age to overcome his shyness and found himself drawn to card tricks. His father, a doctor and amateur magician, showed him a few simple tricks and Vanel started out performing visual card tricks, manipulations, productions, and flourishes as opposed to interactive, pick-a-card effects.

Before becoming a professional magician, Vanel tried his hand as a runway model for Armani and attended medical school. But the love of magic prevailed and he took a hiatus from school to enter a magic competition, which he won. Vanel landed his first television show due to a runway performance modeling underwear. He was practicing with a deck of cards while waiting in the wings for his turn on the runway. When his turn came, he had no place to hide his cards and decided to put on a show and manipulate cards as he walked the runway. The crowd response was so overwhelming, that he was offered his own weekly television series: “Fun TV Magic.”

Growing up, Vanel was a huge fan of David Copperfield and was heavily influenced by the illusionist’s television performances. While creating his own stage show, Vanel hired Jonie Spina, David Copperfield’s director and choreographer, who worked with him on performance and effective communication with the audience. He studied acting, dance and singing to further hone his showmanship skills.

In the United States, his credits include a seven-year run in MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris, as well as appearances in “Crazy Girls” at the Riviera and the Excalibur.

Beginning April 5, 2012, Stephan Vanel will appear Tuesdays through Sundays at 7:00 p.m., at the Harmon Theatre in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Casino; 3663 Las Vegas Boulevard, South, outside entrance on the corner of Harmon and the Las Vegas Strip.
