The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas Celebrate Chinese New Year
The Venetian and The Palazzo will celebrate the Year of the Ox with an authentic dragon and lion dance complete with eye ceremony and firecrackers. The colorful spectacle will involve performers dressed in elaborate costumes playing traditional music. The parade of dancers and musicians will begin at The Venetian’s lavish Porte Cochere and make its way through the casino floor enter The Shoppes at The Palazzo ending in the extravagant Palazzo Lobby. The parade is open to the public.
Festive decorations in the customary color scheme of red and gold and traditional tangerine trees will help ring in the New Year at The Venetian and The Palazzo. Both properties will feature unique and custom décor and some of the highlights include: 12-foot hand-sculpted golden ox, 6-foot tall I Ching Coins, red taffeta fabric treatments and 25-foot bamboo canes in gold leafed vases.
Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day, of the first moon, of the lunar calendar. The dragon and lion dance symbolizes good luck and prosperity for the year to come and is an important ritual of the Chinese culture. The Chinese consider dragons to be friendly and helpful creatures associated with strength, good fortune, wisdom and longevity. Lions are traditionally seen as guardians and are used to exorcise evil spirits and summon luck and fortune.
