Participants vying to be potential contestants completed applications which were put into a drum. Names were randomly selected and applicants were invited to join the host and hostess on stage. They were asked to solve a puzzle as Wheel of Fortune staff looked for not only good puzzle-solving skills, but energy and enthusiasm for the game.
