Silver State Equality, Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, will honor Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and Winnemucca Pride at Silver State Equality’s third annual Silver State Equality Awards. The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation will also present Nevada Senator Dallas Harris (District 11) with a Legislative Leadership Award for her efforts to modernize Nevada’s HIV criminal laws in partnership with Silver State Equality. This year’s Silver State Equality Awards are proudly presented by the San Manuel Ban

The Silver State Equality Awards recognize individuals and organizations who have successfully championed and advanced legislation, initiatives and programs that promote full lived equality for LGBTQ+ Nevadans.

“Nevada once again led the way in advancing LGBTQ+ civil rights and social justice for underserved and marginalized communities during the 2021 Nevada Legislature,” said André C. Wade, State Director, Silver State Equality.  “We owe much of our success to support from leaders like Governor Sisolak and Senator Harris, so it’s particularly fitting that we honor them for their significant role in helping to pass voter protection legislation, modernizing HIV laws, improving healthcare access, increasing support for LGBTQ+-owned businesses, enacting meaningful change in school curriculum to include the histories of marginalized communities,  allowing for all consenting parents to share in the duties and responsibilities of raising a child, and more.  Additionally, we commend the members of Winnemucca Pride for its leadership in organizing the first-ever Pride event in rural Nevada, which garnered national and international attention.”
