City of Henderson Proclaims “Henry’s Place Day” in Honor of Metro Sgt. Henry Prendes
City of Henderson Mayor Andy A. Hafen, pictured above with Dawn Prendes (Sgt. Prendes’ widow), proclaims today, May 21, 2010, “Henry’s Place Day” in honor of Sgt. Henry Prendes (Photo credit: Peter Chmiel).
Hafen, a 23-year veteran of L.V.M.P.D., went on to state in the Proclamation the “sincere appreciation for your efforts and hard work in helping to make Sgt. Prendes’ dream of Henry’s Place a reality.” The two are pictured in front of the first rendering of Henry’s Place.
Henry’s Place (www.henrysplace.org), a non-profit organization, was formed in 2006 to honor Metro Sgt. Henry Prendes who gave his life protecting his hometown community in a domestic violence matter. Before his death, the Prendes family had the desire to start a camp for underprivileged youth. Through the support of our community, a 14-acre parcel of land is in development in Cedar City, UT as the future home of Henry’s Place.
Proceeds from today’s event, the 4th Annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic held this week at Black Mountain Golf & Country Club in Henderson, will be used to build cabins and facilities at the new campsite, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Injured Police Officers’ Fund on behalf of the 2009 Fallen Officers.
Results of the event will be released shortly.
