Designed for all ages and well-behaved, leashed pets, attendees will learn about caring for furry friends in a fun way. Equally as important is the festival’s message of kindness to animals and humane education.

Now in its seventh year, the Family, Fur & Fun Festival features educational, interactive and service booths and activities. They include separate cat and dog adoption areas, dachshund races, dog agility demonstrations, naming new shelter animals, free nail trimming, and information about pet safety during Halloween, keeping pets healthy and slim, proper animal care, making pets part of the family, and including pets in planning should a home fire or flood occur.

New this year, a Halloween costume contest for pets of all kind will be held. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. Categories include: Best in Show, Best Family (can include pet owners and/or multiple pets), Funniest Costume and Cutest Costume. The entry fee is $3 per category. Registration will be at the festival. The contest is being organized by Las Vegas Hot Diggity Dachshund Club & Rescue.

Arica of Pet’ographique will offer special $25 pricing for pet portraits, and Good Canine Citizen testing will be offered for $5. Proceeds from these sales, the Halloween contest and raffle prizes will benefit local rescue programs.

Event attendees are invited to bring new and gently used items for the nonprofit Barks 4 Blankets organization to help dogs in need at animal shelters and in dog rescue and fostering groups. Barks 4 Blankets representatives will be collecting donations at a table at the park entrance. Items may include blankets, dog houses, dog sweaters and jackets, and dog beds, toys, food, water bowls, leashes and collars.

Refreshments will be available, and some Mountain’s Edge builders also will have booths and promotions.

Family, Fur & Fun Festival sponsors include: Law Office of Donna Stidham LLC, Mountain’s Edge Master Planned Community, AlohaAnimalHospital, Arica of Pet’ographique, NutriSource, EnglishGarden Florist, Amica Insurance and At Your Service Pet Supplies.
