The historic Water Street District in Henderson will turn into a sea of green for the 52nd Annual Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival.
The celebration takes place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on March 16; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on March 17; and noon to 7 p.m. on March 18 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St. Admission is free. Some activities may require purchased tickets, which are available at the event.
The Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin have kept the Irish heritage alive in Southern Nevada for more than half of a century. Not only does the St. Patrick’s Day event share Irish traditions and culture with the community, it also is one of the organization’s largest fundraisers, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which is dedicated to funding childhood cancer research.
This year’s event features festivities for people of all ages and interests. The family-friendly event includes a carnival, car show and festival, complete with live performances by Irish bands and Celtic dancers. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving fundraiser will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on March 17 during the festival. Men, women and children can participate in the charity fundraiser by joining the Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin team or creating their own team.
The parade, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 17, is one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the region. It features more than 100 colorful entries, festive floats and community groups.
A ride-through-style 3D haunted house is a new addition to the festival midway, where attendees can also ride the iconic Zipper in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
