Bank of America has awarded $402,500 in economic mobility grants to 41 nonprofits working to increase basic needs, education and workforce development opportunities in Southern Nevada.
Pictured: Bank of America’s Dan Giraldo hand-delivered a $30,000 grant to Clark County’s Summer Business Institute (SBI). The grant, accepted by Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, supports the program’s paid summer employment and educational workshops for more than 140 CCSD high school students.
With the Las Vegas unemployment rate higher than the national average at nearly 5 percent, access to basic resources such as housing, shelter and food are important for people to achieve economic mobility. Add to this limited access to career skills training or financial education, and economic stability becomes even more challenging.
Las Vegas Nonprofits Receive $402,500 from Bank of America to Support Economic Mobility
The nonprofits receiving funding are providing pathways to employment, such as offering veterans essential guidance as they enter the workforce and connecting youth to opportunities for first-time jobs – work that aligns with Bank of America’s commitment to building a diverse workforce to help create economic opportunity and help people chart a path toward greater economic mobility by improving access to food, shelter, benefits and other fundamental needs.

The grants in Las Vegas are part of nearly $43 million in grants the Bank of America Charitable Foundation is providing across the country to advance economic mobility. These grants are a part of the company’s commitment to responsible growth as it works to improve financial lives. Philanthropic and volunteer investments from employees play a key role in this effort to build thriving communities. In 2016, Bank of America employees in Las Vegas collectively spent nearly 12,000 hours volunteering with local organizations, and pledged nearly $900,000 to support local nonprofits and community initiatives.
