Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour Makes Stops at Four At-Risk Schools During Nevada Reading Week
Harrah’s Comedy-Magician Mac King made a special visit to four at-risk elementary schools as part of Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour during Nevada Reading Week (Pictured above: Dr. Beverly Mathis, Principal of Kermit R. King held two assemblies at each school, reading a few short stories to the students and performing tricks from his show. Mac King ‘s Magical Literacy Tour worked with Clark County READS, an initiative of The Public Education Foundation, so that every student at the four schools received a book of their own.
The goal of Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour was to collect 2,100 books, the number of students at each school. The tour exceeded that goal and collected an astounding 3,100 books in February. To accomplish this, Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour partnered with The Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team to host a book drive at hockey games. Donations also came from local used books stores, Plaza Books and Michael’s Books as well as Preferred Public Relations and The Public Education Foundation.
With extra books on hand, King plans to visit an additional school in the near future where he will again send every child home with a book.
King, one of today’s brightest and most talented magicians, takes the stage twice daily, Tuesday through Saturday, at Harrah’s Las Vegas at 1 and 3 p.m. in the Showroom Theatre. Tickets are $29.95 plus tax. Additional information on The Mac King Comedy Magic Show can be found by visiting www.mackingshow.com
