This October, Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) and Cirque du Soleil are kicking off the new season with a dazzling, never-before-seen performance as they host the 10th annual A Choreographers’ Showcase (ACS), taking place exclusively at the Mystère Theater at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino.
This year’s ACS will be presented on Sunday, Oct. 8, Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. each day. Tickets for the performance are now on sale starting at $25 and may be purchased by calling the Mystère box office at 702-894-7722 or visiting www.nevadaballet.org.
Hailed as one of today’s most dynamic and highly regarded collaborations, ACS offers an unforgettable performing arts experience – performing for three days only this fall.
“Each year, we challenge ourselves to create something more exciting and unique, and each time, we are inspired by the newfound creativity, passion and depth exhibited by our employees – both here and at NBT,” said Jerry Nadal, Senior Vice President, Resident Shows Division at Cirque du Soleil and NBT Board Co-Chair. “As we head into the show’s tenth year, we are reminded that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, which is something to be celebrated in today’s society.”
Over the past decade, ACS has inspired its members to embrace their cultural identity and individuality, while still appreciating the diversity of others. This year’s performance will revolve around “celebration” in honor of the show’s 10th anniversary, touting those same sentimentalities as the artists tell stories of heritage, culture, acceptance and community.
“You never know what someone will bring to the table based on their own experiences, trials and tribulations,” said Pierre Parisien, Senior Director of Show Quality at Cirque du Soleil. “That’s the best part about this showcase – learning about each other in ways we never thought possible. When we first created this project in 2007, we never imagined how successful it would be. Now, 10 years later, we have seen participants go on to bigger and better things – which is absolutely inspiring.”
Fifteen originally choreographed works will be performed by more than 60 local artists from both companies, including a special appearance from 10 of NBT’s Future Dance Scholars. Together, the artists will showcase a variety of different acts including puppetry, body percussion, flags, comedy and more.
“We are astounded by the talent, growth and creativity that has developed from ACS over the past decade,” said Executive Director & CEO, Beth Barbre. “With the creation of 101 original works, this one-of-a-kind project has nurtured more than 500 artists in their quest to explore movement, music and collaboration. ACS has given 73 NBT Future Dance Scholars the opportunity to perform with professional artists on the Mystère Theater stage and enabled 10,000 Clark County school children to share this unique artistic experience. We are humbled by the support the Las Vegas community has shown ACS since its inception and we look forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary this fall.”
ACS is a benefit for NBT, a 501(c)(3) non-profit performing arts organization. All proceeds from the event will support the company’s professional company productions at its performance home, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, where it is the Resident Ballet Company; its affiliated Academy that trains over 400 students; and its Education and Outreach programs, which successfully impact more than 20,000 students a year in at-risk communities and beyond.
